Accurate Security & Lock

Locksmith and Security Services in Lakemoor, Illinois

Lakemoor is a smaller village with new development, a scattered waterfront character and a commercial strip along Route 120. A large share of the residential work is on newer homes still running builder hardware, plus boathouse and lake-facing doors that need exterior-grade fittings rather than domestic ones.

Lakemoor has grown steadily, and much of what we are called to here is in recently built houses or on properties with water access. Both of those situations have a predictable set of lock problems attached to them.

We work across the village and along the state line corridor. This page covers new-build lock work, waterfront doors and what is worth doing early.

New homes and which lock upgrades matter

On a house that is a few years old, almost everything about the doors is right. The frames are square, the bores are the correct size and the hardware is undamaged. The weakness is the grade of the components. A builder-grade deadbolt with a short bolt throw, a thin strike and a softwood jamb is the easiest part of the property to defeat.

The efficient upgrade is therefore targeted rather than wholesale. Replace the cylinder on the main entrances with a better grade, reinforce the strikes into solid framing, and add a second bolt or a latch guard on any door that is recessed or screened from the street. That leaves the door, the finish and the existing hardware in place.

  • Cylinder upgrades on existing deadbolts rather than full hardware replacement.
  • Strike reinforcement anchored into framing, not into the jamb face.
  • Rekeying after a purchase, because builder keys and contractor keys circulate widely.
  • Keypad or smart entry on the main entrance and the garage service door.
  • Deadbolts fitted where an exterior or garage service door is on a latch only.

Waterfront and boathouse door hardware

Properties with water access usually have at least one structure that lives outdoors: a boathouse, a dock box, a shed or a walk-out lower level. Standard domestic hardware does poorly in that environment. Humidity and freeze-thaw work on the mechanism, and a lock that was fine in June will often not turn by February.

The better approach is to keep moving parts out of standing water, use hardware rated for exterior use, and service it rather than wait for it to seize. On a boathouse door a through-bolted hasp with a shrouded padlock is frequently more durable and more appropriate than a household lockset, and it is easier to replace when it eventually wears.

Key control on homes not occupied weekly

Some properties here are seasonal or used at weekends. On those, key control matters more than lock strength. The useful routine is to have every exterior door on one key, to know who holds a copy, and to re-key rather than wonder when a key cannot be accounted for.

It also makes sense to check the exterior doors periodically, because a lock that has not been operated for months is exactly the one that fails when it is needed. On a property with an outbuilding, include that in the check rather than assuming it is fine because it is new.

Local businesses along the Route 120 corridor

Premises here are mostly small, which means there is usually no one watching the rear of the building. The common faults are a rear or side door that no longer latches because the frame has moved, and a delivery door secured with nothing better than a passage latch.

The sequence that works is to get each door closing and latching reliably first, then decide whether it needs a better lock, a keypad, or a credential. On a small site, a master key system with one sub-master normally covers the requirement at a fraction of the cost of a full access control installation.

Office hours and what to mention

Business hours run Monday to Saturday, 08:30 to 17:00, and Sunday is closed. If the property includes a boathouse or an outbuilding, mention it when you call, because that hardware is specified differently from the house.
